DEOGENES

I have noticed throughout my life the various role models presented to me by mainstream culture seemed to be something manufactured by a conveyer belt of bullshit. I was never interested in "The Footballer", "The Politician" and the nearest I came to being interested in "The Rockstar" was the unappreciative idea that I could maybe make a lot of money if I could get a record deal when all I had to do was sing a song.

I was born in the 8-bit era as the first computers were being rolled out to an unsuspecting public who never realised that the computer game toys would turn into the panopitcon of human exploitation they've become. Perhaps unappreciative of the art of Andrew Edward Braybrook, (the second best Paradroid player after me, if the scoreboard was anything to go by,) I wanted to be driving around in a Fiat XI9 by writing computer games for a living. The goggle eyed Braybrook, wasn't just a games creator but also a celebrity in the magazines where kids could get a low down on the top ten games in the same way that Billboard Magazine was directing everyone to tell us what the best music was.

I had never came across the conecept of "bread and circuses" to even know the lake of total bullshit I was immersed in, even existed. I wanted a job that paid good money when I grew up, and I figured the goggle eyed Braybrook was a suitable role model for my plans in life. Despite being Scottish, I had not yet heard the words of Rabbie Burns in regards to the best laid plans of mice and men, and even if I had heard them, they would have made no sense to me as a child. What do you want to be when you grow up? Well it wasn't a gig economy worker able to see myself being totally exploited and unable to even convey it to my fellow workers whose intents may be best expressed by the various artists who deal with the theme of "in a mirror darkly".

As I have become used to the reality I live in, as best as I can free myself from the delusions of my youth, which still appear to be within the people round about me who would call me delusional for not believing contradictions, along the way, I have came across the unlikely role model of Deogenes.

Deogenes is characterised as a man with a dog who lives outside the gates of an ancient Greek city inside a broken container which was once used by the city to store commodities like wheat or oil. Some might perceive the man as simply "a beggar" but the reasons he lives in a pot rather than the city is in fact that he is the very opposite of all the grovellers trapped inside the city by the confusion that Deogenes had managed to liberate himself from.

The epitome of Greek cynicism, he might be described amongst modern sociopaths to be a psychopathic lunatic who has not the good conscience to obey his rightful masters. He is perhaps best summed up in the scenario where the king of the city takes a wander outside the city gates to see for the first time what lies beyond his marbled paradise. Surrounded by an entourage of bodyguards under the command of leutenants and the various valets and advisors who grovel before the king in this procession outside the city gate, the King comes across the character Deogenes, who is outside the cities jurisdiction that all the grovellers are tied up in and when the King stands between the sun and Deogenes doing some sunbathing, Deogenes orders the cities King to get out of his light.

This is an eye popping madness to the pyramid of various grovelling citizens who are having to deal with the shocking reality that the perceived beggar has just given their greatest god a commandment.

What happenned next is unknown but I could guess on the basis of reality as it is, as opposed to reality as is pretended, that the entire pyramid of grovellers went back into the city and continued to believe that they were all equal before the law and that Deogenes was just some lunatic. Some people cant even see the humour in that. I think I know why. This website will be banned from many reading lists, and its not because I sometimes say words like "fuck" to punctuate the free speech I frequently engage in.

I am not responsable their belief in mutually exclusive contradictions nor am I responsable for their offendedness. If you find yourself looking in the mirror questioning if you are one of them, you probably are, but you cant be a vampire if you cast reflection in the mirror.
